It’s damming and it’s embarrassing, but a recent survey carried out by polling body Synovate and the BBC has shown that us Brits enjoy fast food more than any other nation in the world – including the States!
One question that the survey asked participants to agree or disagree with was “I like the taste of fast food too much to give it up.”
Results showed that;
45 percent of Britons agreed
44 percent of Americans agreed
37 percent of Canadians agreed
Our friends across the water, the French, really put the boot in, with 81% disagreeing with this statement.
What I find extraordinary in this country is that so many people bemoan the fact that they’re gaining weight and losing their physiques, yet continue to ‘chow down’ fast food, processed meals and snacks high in sugar, fat and salt.
What makes this sorry state of affairs even worse is that the majority of people realise the health implications of eating poor quality food!
What really nails the lid on the coffin of our nation’s health is a recent study by the British Heart Foundation, which found that 82% of kids between the ages of 7 and 14 in this country see crisps as a staple part of their diet, rather than an occasional treat!
Unless we educate our children otherwise, and lead by example, we are going to breed a nation of underactive and overweight children whose eating habits will only deteriorate further as they get older…
